SCOPE

This home needed a lot of updating. While parts of the home were opening plan, the spaces were not used to their fullest potential. The kitchen was tucked into a space away from the living space making the other smaller spaces not conducive for inclusionary socialising. Each of the spaces and functioning there of was reimagined and shifted about, correcting the poor flow of the home. The kitchen was opened completely to the living space with a massive communal island as its feature piece. All the spaces now had views and connections through to the garden. High level windows were punctured into the gable ends to allow views of the dramatic Johannesburg skyscrapers. A window was installed to frame a feature paper bark tree in a back courtyard and slot windows introduced as views out.
An outdated glass framed patio structure was removed and transformed into a built in external fire pit come exterior lounge connecting to the clients much loved bar area.
The redesign was a successful use of existing spaces without having to extend the square meters of the original home at all. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of reimagining…
