This home was structured as a typical home of its time, with each room boxed away from the next. Very little celebration of the beautiful garden and an added cottage that made little sense to the flow of the home. The client is the most wonderful family of five who love to entertain, have guests to stay, enjoy family time with a few dogs in tow, but who also are working professionals based from home. The trick was to create an open bright home giving working spaces privacy and quiet away from kid zones, but to also create a wonderful family space that opens to the magnificent garden and corrects the flow of the home. A lot of opening out , opening up and connecting spaces visually and physically through glazed sliding barn doors. The kitchen became the heart of the home that everything opened and connect to, allowing for the family to function in and around this beautiful space.
A few careful use and reuse of fireplace surrounds , windows and doors were all incorporated into the home to help with cost savings and to keep some authentic feels of the original house. A wonderful solution of sliding shutters in the main bedroom suite allowed the clients to manipulated , alter and continually change the feel of their master suite.
